About the Saturday Art program
Miami University has been running the Saturday Art community art program for the Oxford community for many decades. The teachers for the program are Miami University art education students, enrolled in ART 495 (practicum experience prior to student teaching). Teachers decide upon a theme for the program, create guiding questions for each week and then write a 6-week curriculum that aligns to Ohio Visual Arts standards and offers unique, creative experiences. Projects vary between classes and include 2D and 3D media and historical and contemporary artist exemplars. Students age 4 to adult can sign up. Classes are designed to challenge students at their own level and new lessons are presented each week based on the class theme. Previous experience in art is not required! Class time and location THESE CLASSES ARE IN PERSON 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. in the Art Building on Oxford Campus (400 S. Patterson Ave.). The first session will begin in Art 100 for a program introduction. Aside from the first session, students in grades PreK through 5 need to be signed in and out of their individual classrooms each Saturday by a parent/guardian. The final exhibition will be located throughout the first floor of the Art Building at the end of the program. Students will be picked up at the end of each class from their classrooms (and dropped off at their classrooms starting the second day of class). Students 5th grade and younger will have to be signed out at the end of class by a parent or approved guardian to ensure safety. Parking Permits are required.
